The nursing department and nurse leadership are very fundamental in healthcare. Nurse leaders oversee the activities of this department and the health care system. A nurse leader may not have an authoritative position; but can mentor colleagues toward specific goals (Arkansas State University, 2016). A nurse leader examines the treatment results, facilitates the treatment plan, and cares for the patient. Finally, nurse leaders ensure nurses are working on good terms and conditions (Arkansas State University, 2016). Nurse leaders play a significant role in decision-making in hospital settings (Tomajan, 2012). Leadership is critical in such an important health profession and the whole health system.

Nurse leaders are in charge of various functions in health. They are engaged from the pre-treatment to post-treatment of the patient. This medical personnel serves an essential role in the psycho-social support of the patient. Nurse leaders develop treatment plans, which help create a powerful bond for their recovery (Carr, 2013). A bachelor’s degree in nursing is now crucial for nurses who aspire to take up leadership responsibilities (Arkansas State University, 2016). Credibility, self-awareness, and confidence are the sounding virtues for leadership in this profession. Nurse leaders need to have these traits to take control.

Nurse leadership influence is far-reaching in patient care and the entire health sector. Nurse leaders use advocate skills to solve issues, communicate with patients, and involve others (Tomajan, 2012). These leaders can be at the frontline when educating society on disease issues (Arkansas State University, 2016). Nurse leaders impact the community because they use their advocacy skills to relate with the people. Nurse leaders use advocacy strategies to create a positive change in hospitals. Quality patient care is achieved by assessing the safety initiatives put in place by nurse leaders (Carr, 2013). Effective collaboration with physicians allows nurse leaders to consult extensively on the patient’s diagnosis (Arkansas State University, 2016). Nurse leaders share objectives with their colleagues to promote collective responsibility.
