Over the last ten years, service users have taken a greater role in mental health care, with rehabilitation being a central component of treatment. Many mental health policies require recovery-oriented practice, which has a global focus. The method advocates focusing on building resilience in people with mental illness and helping those in emotional distress rather than simply treating or controlling symptoms (Jacob, 2015). Recovery focuses on giving people hope and reintegrating them back into society and their lives before they were diagnosed. The goal of mental health programs is to foster an environment that encourages rather than hinders people’s attempts to recover.

The Recovery-Oriented Mental Health Practice

The National Institute for Mental Health Excellence addresses recovery-oriented practice concepts and emphasizes the importance of clinicians providing supportive person-centered care. The principles of recovery-oriented mental health practice guarantee that psychiatric care is provided in a manner that aids mental health patients in their rehabilitation (Australian Government Department of Health, 2010). The principles include the individual’s uniqueness, real choices, attitudes and rights, dignity and respect, partnership and communication, and evaluating recovery. The National Institute for Mental Health Excellence emphasizes the importance of practitioners adhering to the guidelines to provide favorable person-centered treatment. Any organization that follows the recovery model should aim to integrate these concepts into their treatment.

Recovery Supporting Factors

Healthy relationships, financial stability, and fulfilling work are only a few of the factors linked to a successful recovery. The atmosphere is also essential because it promotes personal development, builds resilience to stress and adversity, and helps people gain cultural and spiritual perspectives (Jacob, 2015). Families, associates, health and social care personnel, believing in, listening to, and understanding people on the path to recovery can be highly beneficial. Obtaining reasons for difficulties or experiences, as well as learning expertise and receiving assistance to achieve their objectives, is critical to success. Help is also vital during times of crisis.

The Recovery-Oriented Mental Health Practice

The recovery model makes a major contribution to treatment by allowing regain of control of and giving meaning to life. This is an admirable aim that all mental health providers should support and contribute to. One of the rehabilitation model’s main advantages is that it emphasizes human strengths and abilities rather than weaknesses and dysfunctions. It puts confidence in the individual’s capacity to understand their own experience and engage effectively in their care. The recovery-oriented practice uses a person-centered and positive approach, making for a quicker and more successful recovery from mental disorders, resulting in the best possible results for people’s mental health and wellbeing.
