Transgender diversity has become an integrated part of U.S. society over the last five years. More people now demand absolute level inclusivity and freedom provided by traditional institutes, such as law and family. As a result, it is critical to analyze this trend from different perspectives holistically. In this case, the four educational lenses enabled one to focus on a specific part of an issue instead of describing it generally. The main idea of this project was to demonstrate that transgender diversity is an illustrative example of contemporary global challenges that have had a considerable impact on modern society in terms of expanding the inclusion of conventional institutions, improving working conditions, and encouraging cultural enrichment.
What is the origin of the issue?
Let us turn to the background of the transgender diversity issue, which is best illustrated through a historical education lens. However, the most influential cases were held at the end of the century, such as Price Waterhouse versus Hopkins’ case in 1989, where the legislative power made a positive precedent in reference to the freedom of self-expression and dress code in the workplace (Fiske et al., 1991). After that, Obergefell versus Hodges represented the legal framework problem resolving since the law did not consider the possibility to change the gender after the birth, which was the reason for refusing certain couples to get married (Kazyak & Stange, 2018). During the 21st century, transgender diversity became a significant issue for society during the second decade.
Some people consider that Laverne cox was one of the first transgender representatives who emphasized U.S. society’s attention on the main diversity issues, such as self-expression and consideration. She became a country-level actress and photo model, which increased not only her popularity but also the level of transgender issue’s significance (Steinmetz, 2014). Finally, the analyzed part of the diversity issue became seriously considered on the highest level of governmental regulation (Madani & Tsirkin, 2021). In fact, Dr. Rachel Levine became the nation’s first openly transgender government worker when the Senate approved her appointment to the Department of Health and Human Services.
What is the issue about?
Transgender diversity is a significant topic in contemporary society. In many situations, this tendency reflects a need for self-expression, inspiring individuals to express their emotions and views via humanities lens. In addition, t his concept contributes to the assertion that transgender variety generates beneficial tensions in society, which assures to the community’s continual growth.
Who is impacted by the issue?
The transgender diversity issue concerns the vast population of the USA since it is strongly tightened with human rights for self-expression and self-consideration (Martinez-Jimenez et al., 2020). As a result, the most specific group of people might be described as people who have experienced the change of gender perception and those who have social contact with them.
What is important to know about those who are impacted by the issue?
This type of people majorly represents the new generation who are concerned about profound social problems and methods of their resolution. These individuals did not experience tough periods in the economy, so they have enough capability to profoundly analyze their fundamental rights, which makes them a potential power to move the society’s model to bigger inclusivity and freedom.
On the one hand, the lens of the natural and applied sciences enable us to conclude that scientists strive to understand the functionality of the multi-gender body and develop some possibilities to make the surgery more effective and comprehensible. As a result, transgender representatives and people who have contact with them are benefiting from natural and apply sciences’ researches in the long-term perspective (Canner et al., 2018). On the other hand, the non-scientific community supports the issue’s development in terms of debating on different diversity subjects, which creates positive tensions in the society and pursues the issue’s consideration on a higher level.
How Has Critically Analyzing Your Issue or Event in Diversity Informed Your Individual Framework of Perception?
Transgender diversity provided two major changes leading to my new world perception. Firstly, consideration of intersectionality theory has expanded my possibilities in analyzing diversity issues. Some scientists describe the concept from the opportunistic side by stating that individuals are identified not only through their appearance or behavior but also with regard to their gender, race, sexual orientation, and religion.
As a result, by consolidating all the issues in terms of the freedom of self-expression and self-consideration, transgender diversity helped me to expand my problems’ perception from the distinct analysis to holistic and general observations.
In my professionalization domain, communications, transgender diversity develops the new model of interaction in the media sphere and individual relations. In the new framework, individuals would be free not only from gender stereotypes but also concerned about the main society’s problems due to intersectionality theory application. As a result, the general level of communication quality will considerably improve. Finally, now I understand that people might have different considerations of themselves, and it is critical to understand their worldview to establish an effective communication process.
When it comes to the next topic in the next five or ten years in communications, it might be formulated as a question. How might the media sphere develop full inclusivity in any communication experience so that all personality consideration factors would not negatively affect any individual?
When it comes to value addition, transgender diversity enables a rethinking of the interpersonal communication process’s direction. More precisely, in a two-gendered society, absolute values take precedence, creating the potential for emotional conflict. Simultaneously, transgender concerns have encouraged individuals to think about relative values, which are more debatable from a factual standpoint.
For instance, when two people touch a religious subject, the diversity principle incites them to change the question from “What is your religion?” to “What are the fundamental values of your religion?” As a result, the modified question has relative value and might be discussed, while the first option forces people to answer in absolute terms, which are significantly influenced by social and religious biases. Another example would concern politics: instead of asking “Who is the best candidate for you?” the individual would ask, “What do factors would indicate a proper country’s governing for you?”
In today’s environment, the community feels compelled to share their views, resulting in a more inclusive society with no dominating viewpoint. For instance, the reflection social practice has gained widespread adoption in the business environment, where self-expression is valued more than personal point defending.
In the sphere of communications, diversity significantly helps to resolve the issue of poor informational background due to the presence of intersectionality theory. In fact, to fully understand an individual’s motives and thoughts, it is critical to realize the interlocutor’s relative values from their self-consideration perspective. As a result, by applying diversity principles, communication analysts might significantly increase not only the quality of the conversation or other processes but also the final outcome for both actors.
On a professional level, diversity enables people to overcome gender barriers and create an atmosphere that is free of clichés and receptive to collaboration. For example, corporate leadership may rotate representatives on a quarterly basis to enable employees to assess the company’s operational procedures and the issues faced by other employees. On a personal level, transgender diversity aids in the development of empathy since the freedom of self-expression and self-consideration enables individuals to be open-minded and prejudice-free.
One of the most significant diversity benefits is that the transgender trend is already increasing, which indicates that less effort would result in a far more favorable conclusion for society’s problem perspective. Additionally, transgender diversity has been shown to be advantageous in addressing the personal and professional environment in order to facilitate more effective and productive communication. Simultaneously, the scientific community acknowledges that transgender community connection (TCC) has been linked with several positive outcomes, including improved mental health and improved access to treatment. These findings underscore TCC’s overall influence and the critical nature of cultivating this propensity in society (Sherman et al., 2019). On the other hand, diversity continues to present society with a number of unresolved difficulties. For example, society continues to face legal challenges as a result of the fact that various people cannot be classed as one of the defined genders. Additionally, the minority of firmly established people are unable to adapt to the present reality and reject diversity as a global trend. These people maintain sufficient clout to halt the trend’s progression. Finally, despite great advances in more liberal governments, it is difficult to influence traditional institutions, which might upset social harmony.
On a professional level, diversity would add value in terms of more informal communication on both external and internal business levels. In addition, the working team would benefit from better communication quality due to the informational background increase. At the same time, on a personal level, people would experience significant empathy development during interpersonal communication. Moreover, they would provide fundamental issue analysis instead of arguing on emotional basis since diversity principles shift the main discussion’s object from absolute to relative values understanding.
