During a significant period of humanity’s history, women’s role in society was considered to be secondary. It was believed that men could accomplish all the responsible tasks and activities, while women are obliged to raise children and perform household duties. Consequently, women’s lives were considerably limited, since they did not have the right to work, receive education, and others. However, the fact that in the modern world, the situation has improved, appears to be undeniable. People all over the world adhere to equality, and women are provided with fundamental rights. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare past and present women’s rights.

First of all, it is essential to mention that in previous times, the major occupation for women implied raising children and performing household duties. Women were not allowed to work and earn money, only in case of extreme poverty, and the range of activities was significantly limited. Apparently, they could not receive any type of education, even learning how to read. The contrast to the current position is evident, as women have an opportunity to occupy the job of their interest. They can receive appropriate education in order to fulfill their working duties. Furthermore, they can change cities and countries in order to receive the preparation of their choice. However, despite all the improvements, there are some restrictions. For instance, in some cases, a women’s salary appears to be smaller compared to the one a man receives without an objective reason for it. In addition, there are still professions, which are unavailable for women.

Secondly, in the past, it was assumed that politics is the field of occupation, which is appropriate only for men. Women were involved in politics only due to special circumstances. Today, the heads of the government are predominantly men, though women have received the right to be elected to these posts. Another aspect, which should be highlighted, regards the period when people were given the right to elect their leaders, and only men could use it. In some cases, they have to match income and age qualifications. In the context of present-day developments, people worldwide are provided with this possibility, including women.

In general, women have achieved more freedom to express themselves. In the past, women and girls were obsessed with fashion and current tendencies. It was crucial for them to look appropriately in order to marry a decent man. However, now, women are not restricted to some standards and have the freedom to express themselves. They can adhere to the style they like and choose any clothes in accordance with their interests. For instance, even in the previous century, it was unacceptable for a girl to have brightly computed hair and tattoos and wear ripped jeans. Today, women are free to choose an outfit in accordance with their views and tastes in order to look the way they like.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that there is progress in achieving more rights for women. The reality is not the same for women as it was a century ago. They are free to stick to the occupation and education of their choice and interest. In addition, there is a likelihood for them to be elected as head of the government. Furthermore, their appearance is now dependent on their preferences. Although a significant number of improvements are done, it is essential to continue this work.
