Grants are an excellent tool for advancing science that enables young teams to develop their projects with outside funding. With the help of grants, scientists can realize their ideas and achieve results that can radically improve the world. However, as with any issue that involves financial support, using outside money has responsibilities. Writing a grant proposal is a necessary step that partially addresses this responsibility. Specifically, such an application is a detailed and structured document that answers budget spending plans and project timelines (Vieira, n.d.). In other words, a grant proposal is necessary to outline the parties’ responsibilities, develop “instructions” for the execution of the research project, and document expectations for its implementation.
As an essential clinical staff member, the nurse is often involved in writing the grant proposal, which means that such a staff member must have sufficient persuasive and planning skills. In the health sciences, grants are significant because the health care agenda in the community depends on them. The nurse thus has a special responsibility to ensure that the grant application is sufficiently structured, formalized, and persuasive for the approval committee to accept it.
Grant writing is of great importance to academic development, including the project in which I plan to pursue a professional career. Since my chosen profession is surgical nursing, it is clear that additional investment in technology development to inform and care for patients in postoperative recovery is of grave academic importance (Brewster et al., 2021). More specifically, through increased development of nursing science and addressing the fundamental issues of providing better information and ethical dilemmas of clinical practice, I, as a future med-surg, will be able to provide more reliable and evidence-based care to clients.
