Every woman is entitled to make decisions in their life; they should be in a position to abort without restrictions from the government. Legalizing abortion has been one of the major topics in US for so many years. Since 1971, the Republican party has always prevented pregnant women from accessing abortion means. Recently, the debate on whether to legalize abortion has continued in US where 59% of the citizens support it and 39% are against it (Li et al., 2022). In the 1800s, when abortion was legal, many women could die due to it. This happened because there were no medical advancements for doing it appropriately. Today, discoveries of medications for abortion have been made, making abortion safer (Li et al., 2022). If pregnancy causes depression in a woman, then she should have the right to terminate the pregnancy. Furthermore, a fetus cannot be regarded as a human; hence women can abort. The paper will explain why the US government should legalize abortion.

Women should have the right to choose whether to abort because sometimes pregnancy can have several side effects on them. One of the negative impacts of unwanted pregnancies in women is mental illness (Li et al., 2022). Women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy if it leads to mental issues. If coping with the pregnancy is difficult, then the best way that women can do is to abort. Women should not let unwanted pregnancies interfere with their happiness and their state of well-being. Various reasons could lead to mental illness resulting from unwanted pregnancy, one of them being inadequate funds to raise the child. Taking care of a child goes hand in hand with spending a lot of money. If one feels that they are not in a position to cater for expenses associated with raising children, then they should have the right to abort.

It is safe to abort with the current medical advancements. With the development of misoprostol, abortion can be done quickly and safely. The medication is widely accessible and affordable to many people. There are many trained community workers, use of this medication can be effective and safe. The other medicine that can be used in abortion is combined medical abortion, where both misoprostol and mifepristone are used. With this method, women can experience slight bleeding and pain. A recent study showed that this method had recorded very few cases of incomplete abortions (Li et al., 2022). The third medical advancement that can be employed for safe, effective abortion is surgical abortion. There are so many medical personnel worldwide who are well trained in it and have the necessary skills.

A fetus is not a human; a four-week embryo is just a complex of cellular elements. The semantic point is linked with this metaphysical position, and therefore the fetus cannot be regarded as a human being. A twenty-week fetus can also not be referred to as a human being; in this period, no substantive antilocal change occurs (Li et al., 2022). It is just the cellular elements that enlarge and become more complex. After thirty weeks, the fetus should not be recognized as a human being either. All this clearly shows that abortion should be made legal, and women should have the right to abort.

In conclusion, the government should allow abortion so that women can be in position to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Some pregnancies can have various negative impacts on women, such as depression, insomnia, and poor health. There is no need for a woman to experience mental illness because of giving birth unwillingly. Furthermore, medical advancements for abortion have been made, and therefore the process can be effective and safe. More improvements of this kind should be made because different women may need different abortion methods.
