The PPAARE question

What is the highest level of evidence available to determine if there will be increased injury prevention in the elderly living in skilled nursing facilities with a cognitive impairment through fall prevention programs or pharmacological interventions?

The problem of the study

The problem of this study is to consider the issue and examine the level of an evidence base on improving the quality of care for elderly patients. Moreover, it is noted that it is important to develop and implement specialized strategies to prevent accidents. Among such examples, falls occur most often with inappropriate treatment and care in nursing facilities.

The research article to answer the question

The scientific paper that was used in the past assignment is called “Physical exercise and cognitive performance in the elderly: Current perspectives.” The article under study attempts to answer the question by considering the role of physical exercise in people’s cognitive abilities. Its value is due to the fact that in many homes, specialists cannot immediately realize the disease, which leads to harmful consequences that harm patients (Kirk-Sanchez & McGough, 2013). Moreover, the authors of the source provide information on the implementation of exercise programs for the elderly.

Evidence-based medicine

Evidence-based medicine is of particular importance when conducting research on clinical topics. This method consists of a clear and reasonable application and analysis of up-to-date factual data. This approach is especially often used when making decisions about patient care (Howlette et al., 2020). The main methods in this article were the use of the survey as a mixture between a qualitative and quantitative approach and the experimental method. These aspects help to find the most accurate and clear information that will be useful in the study.

The findings of the study

Despite the importance of the exercises, another fact is noted in the source under study. The authors claim that “physical exercise programs that are individually designed to accommodate physical and cognitive impediments in older adults may serve to lessen secondary cognitive decline” (Kirk-Sanchez & McGough, 2013, p. 59). Moreover, uncertainty causes limited results by the fact that the proposed programs carry large individual characteristics. This factor means that they do not have versatility and will not contribute to a significant rapid improvement.

Guidance to the patient

It is important to note that for each patient, the next step will be different since each person has individual characteristics and needs. However, the next measure may be the most detailed reference to the sources. This can be done especially effectively with Internet resources that store many useful sources. Thus, there will be significantly less time and money costs. In addition, it is important to note that the best source can be a medical specialist due to the availability of proper work experience.

The results of the study in the context of the lived experience

The results of the study can be brought into the context of the life experience of a person with limited education. Hence, they can have a positive impact, as they will bring awareness about the problem and a more specific understanding of it. In addition, they can become the basis for further research on the topic of helping people in specialized institutions and the problems associated with it. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the cultural aspect of the dissemination of this information. Thus, when it is taken into account, the principle of diversity and equality, which is critically important in the field of healthcare, is preserved.
